Lives and works in Basel, Switzerland
Andreas Mathias Caderas ́ work is about a passion for metal. In Basel, Switzerland, where he was born in 1955 and where he still resides, Caderas began his education in goldsmithing, engraving, casting and repousse. In 1987, he studied traditional Japanese metal-inlay in Vienna and in 1998, blacksmithing in Mühleberg, Switzerland. With pure gold rings, forged iron plates and bronze animals, his simple and elegant forms reveal an honest expression of the chosen material, creating pure and timeless objects. Based in the traditions of Japanese Mingei art and the ancient techniques of metalsmithing, his sculptures are a direct result of the momentum of the artistic process; from mind to hand to form, its presence requiring no explanation, only existence.
